“NUI PIMUTEN + JE VEUX MARCHER” BY NATASHA KANAPÉ FONTAINE : A GENTLE APPROACH TO AN EVENTFUL PAST

November 16 2022
DIEPPE, NB, NOVEMBER 14, 2022 — Natasha Kanapé Fontaine presents her very first show of poetry, songs and slams “Nui Pimuten + Je veux marcher” this Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m. at La Caserne of the Dieppe Arts & Culture Centre.
Double finalist at the 2022 ADISQ Gala in the Indigenous Artist of the Year and Revelation of the Year categories, Natasha Kanapé Fontaine has been working in the artistic community for many years. Poetess-slammer, author and Innu actress from Pessamit, living in Montreal, she is on her very first poetry performance tour in New Brunswick. With multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Manuel Gasse by her side, Natasha Kanapé Fontaine delivers her very first poetry show under the sign of self-sacrifice, to nourish the relationship between Indigenous peoples and Canadians.
[Translated literally from French]
“Poems, slams, songs… fragments of the same road that allowed me to find my heart and my land. To draw with my fingers the trajectory of my ancestors on the trails of Nutshimit. Poetry was the language of my people; I have found it again.” underlines Natasha Kanapé Fontaine on the reasons that led her to shape this tour.
Between folk and ambient music, the word of the Innu author makes its way and touches the heart, whether she speaks in French or in her native language. It will lead, with gentleness and power, to reflect on our relationship to others.
“It is important to us to mainly present Aboriginal artists. Before Natasha Kanapé Fontaine's show, the public will be able to discover in the Gallery the recent exhibition of the Mi'kmaq artist Nelson White", says Séverine Fox, Executive Director of the DACC.
This tour of Natasha Kanapé Fontaine's show "Nui Pimuten + Je veux marcher" benefits from the support of the Réseau atlantique de diffusion des arts de la scène (RADARTS). Tickets are on sale on the Dieppe Arts & Culture Centre website at https://centredesartsdieppe.ca or by phone during opening hours.
