From Root to Wing
Artistic Approach
World Children’s Day, often referred to as International Children’s Rights Day, is celebrated annually on November 20. This date commemorates the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989.
The exhibition “From Roots to Wings” is the result of a series of three workshops held at CAFI.
An inspiring project for children; an unforgettable experience.
Working with a group of children over the course of three workshops allowed us to establish a clear thematic thread, forge connections, and create paintings by focusing on personal expression, words, and colors.
The concept: Immigration and multiculturalism do not mean being uprooted, but rather enrichment. We celebrate where we come from (our roots) and what we build together to take flight (our wings). When we travel or move to a new country, we carry invisible treasures with us: words, smiles. Inclusion means opening our heart to share the light.
Visuals: Trees of every color, migratory birds, simple geometric patterns, large textured spaces, cut-out words, and vibrant colors.
Literary component: Children imagine: “If we were a flock of birds flying over Greater Moncton, what would we see?” Each child chooses a kind word or a memory connected to their culture or to what “getting along well” means to them.
