On stage with Jonathan Sonier

Jonathan Sonier presents a show that blends folk and pop. Driven at times by strummed guitar and at others by synthesizers, his soundscape shifts between intimacy and intensity. The setlist draws from his last three EPs of original French songs, with a special focus on his most recent release, Fond d’écran. Accompanied by three musicians, Jonathan Sonier unfolds an ever-evolving musical landscape, alternating between bursts of collective energy and moments of tenderness.

 

Originally from Moncton, New Brunswick, he began his career as a sound designer in theater and a musician for several artists in Quebec City. He notably performed with the band Bleu Kérosène and singer-songwriter Charles-Auguste. After spending six years in Quebec City, he returned to his hometown of Moncton in 2019. In 2020, he released Bateau de verre d’eau, his very first folk-style EP. In November 2021, he released his second EP, Mémoire musculaire. In 2024, Jonathan began a new collaboration with Jacques Bothé, an Acadian musician and longtime friend. Together, they defined a new musical direction for Jonathan’s upcoming compositions. Thus, the five-track EP Fond d'écran was released on November 8, 2024. This project explores a pop sound, while touching on the lightness of folk and the energy of rock. This new sound is now at the heart of upcoming projects.
